How to turn text into music

  1. 01

Describe the song in the box above: genre, mood, instruments and what it's about. One or two sentences are enough to make a song from text.

  2. 02

Leave Instrumental off for a text to song with AI-written lyrics and vocals, or turn it on for music with no vocals. The credit cost shows on the Create button.

  3. 03

Listen to both versions and keep the one you like. Then extend it, split it into stems or download it as MP3 or WAV.

Prompt guide

How to write a good text-to-music prompt

A strong AI music prompt answers six questions in one or two sentences. Use this music prompt formula and fill in each slot, in any order.

Do

  • Pick one main genre and one mood so the AI isn't guessing.

  • Name two or three instruments you want to hear up front.

  • Say what the track is for, like a podcast intro or a game level, so the feel fits the use.

Don't

  • Don't name real artists or song titles. Describe the sound you like instead.

  • Don't stack styles that pull against each other, like a calm lullaby and heavy metal, unless that clash is the idea.

  • Don't paste full lyrics here. Use lyrics to song when you need exact words.

Vocals

Text to music with vocals or instrumental

Songs include vocals unless you turn them off: the AI writes lyrics from your description and sings them. For text to music with vocals, describe the voice, such as "warm vocals" or "soft female vocals", and say what the lyrics should be about.

For text to instrumental, turn on the Instrumental switch under the prompt box. The switch is what removes vocals; adding "no vocals" to your prompt keeps the description consistent. Want to write the words yourself? Click Add Lyrics or open lyrics to song.

Background music

AI background music from text

Use text to music as an AI background music generator for YouTube intros, podcast beds and game loops. Turn on Instrumental, describe the scene and the energy you need, and keep the version that sits best under your voice or footage.

Need it longer? The AI song extender continues a track from any point you choose, and extensions can stay instrumental, so your background music from text can run as long as the video or episode needs.

FAQ

Text to music AI FAQ

Short answers about prompts, credits, vocals and rights.

What is text to music AI?

Text to music AI turns a written description into an original piece of music. You describe the genre, mood and story, and you get two versions: a full song with vocals, or an instrumental.

Is text to music AI free to try?

Yes, you can try it with a free account, which comes with free starter credits (10 in most regions). Starter credits cover ready-made preset tracks at 1 credit each; a custom song from your own text costs 25–32 credits and returns two tracks, so for that you need a plan or a credit pack from the pricing page.

How detailed should my text prompt be?

One or two sentences that cover genre, mood, instruments, energy, vocals and purpose are usually enough. You can write up to 3,000 characters, but extra detail only helps when it describes the sound.

Can I add my own lyrics?

Yes. Click Add Lyrics, or go to lyrics to song and paste your words to have them sung as written. In text to music, the AI writes the lyrics for you.

Can I make an instrumental or background music from text?

Yes. Turn on the Instrumental switch before you generate to get music with no vocals for videos, podcasts or games. If you need it longer, the AI song extender can continue it.

Is this text to speech?

No. ElevenSong generates music, not a voice reading your text aloud. Your words describe the song, and the result is an original track with or without vocals.

Can I use the music commercially?

Yes, our Terms of Service allow personal and commercial use of your outputs, subject to the Terms and any third-party rights. Read the Terms before you publish or monetize a track.
